Beestenmarkt
A leafy plein full of cafés — where Delft actually hangs out.
A square ringed by plane trees and terraces, two minutes from the Markt. Less postcard, more local — and where Delft students drink in summer.
Originally the medieval livestock market (beest = beast). When the market closed in the 19th century the square became a leafy social space. Today fully ringed by café terraces; in summer it functions as Delft's outdoor living room. The annual Jazz Festival uses Beestenmarkt as one of its main stages. The Lutheran Church on the south side dates to 1875.
