Oostpoort

The only surviving medieval city gate of Delft — and the most photographed view in town.

Built around 1400, the Oostpoort (Eastern Gate) is the only one of Delft's eight original city gates still standing. Two slim towers with pointed roofs, mirrored in the canal.

Built circa 1400 in late Gothic style, the Oostpoort consists of a land gate and a water gate connected by a stretch of moat. Of Delft's original eight medieval gates, this is the only one that survived 19th-century demolition. The two octagonal towers got their pointed roofs in 1514. Today private apartments inside; the most photogenic spot is from the bridge looking back over the still water.
