Museum Prinsenhof
Where William the Silent was shot in 1584 — you can see the bullet marks in the wall.
Once a convent, then the residence of William of Orange, now a museum about the founding of the Dutch Republic. The staircase where he was assassinated is preserved with the bullet holes intact.
Originally the 15th-century Sint Agathaklooster. After the Reformation it became the residence of Prince William of Orange (William the Silent), leader of the Dutch revolt against Spain. On 10 July 1584 he was shot by Balthasar Gérard on the main staircase — the bullet holes are still visible in the wall. His final words, in French: "Mon Dieu, ayez pitié de mon âme; mon Dieu, ayez pitié de ce pauvre peuple." Museum covers the Eighty Years' War, Delftware, and silver.
