Delft Station

Look up inside the new station — the ceiling is a giant historical map of Delft.

Opened 2015, Delft's new station and city hall hides its tracks underground. The ceiling of the main hall is a 1877 Kuyper map of Delft, scaled up to cover the entire vault.

Designed by Mecanoo (2015) to replace the old elevated railway viaduct that split the city. Tracks now run through a 2.3 km tunnel; the surface is reclaimed for housing and a new canal. The combined station hall and city office features a vaulted ceiling printed with Kuyper's 1877 map of Delft, scaled 4.5× — one of the most photographed ceilings in the Netherlands.
