TU Delft Campus
A 16,000-bicycle university campus that shaped modern Dutch engineering.
The Delft University of Technology — the Netherlands' oldest and largest technical university. Architectural highlights include the brutalist library with a grass roof you can walk on.
Founded 1842 as Royal Academy for civil engineering education. Now ~26,000 students, 8 faculties, consistently top-15 in world engineering rankings. Architectural icons: the TU Delft Library (Mecanoo, 1997) with its 42 m steel cone and grass-covered sloped roof you can climb; the Aula (van den Broek & Bakema, 1966), a brutalist concrete UFO. Famous alumni: every Dutch astronaut, the inventors of Bluetooth, and a third of the Dutch royal engineers' corps.
