TU Delft & innovation

Bluetooth, the modern bicycle helmet, every Dutch astronaut — all came out of one Delft campus.

TU Delft is Europe's second-oldest technical university and consistently top-15 worldwide. The students here built the world's fastest solar car six times in a row.

Founded 1842. ~26,000 students. Solar Team Delft has won the World Solar Challenge (Australia) six times. Spinoffs include Bluetooth (Jaap Haartsen, 1994), the modern wind turbine, and breakthroughs in self-healing concrete. Every Dutch astronaut (Wubbo Ockels, André Kuipers) studied at TU Delft. The Faculty of Architecture's 2008 fire and rebuild produced one of Europe's most striking university buildings.
